It was a wet race weekend at the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on 14th/15th May, but that couldn’t dampen Sutton’s NAPA spirit. The three-time winner of the British Touring Car Championship has been faithful to his mint green helmet design for the past five years, but he’s now revealed a new look sporting NAPA’s iconic blue and yellow in support of the new partnership.
“I normally stick with my traditional,” Sutton said in his reveal video, “but NAPA have come in with a big statement, so why not back it up with this?”
The NAPA helmet combines old and new — the design stays true to Ash’s usual style, maintaining the sleek lines BTCC fans know and love while incorporating the signature NAPA branding. Miles Murphy of MDM Designs, the mastermind behind the original look, worked with Sutton on the redesign, and Joe Tanner of Rennat Designs turned the dream into reality with his helmet-painting talents.
“It’s always a pleasure working with Ash,” Tanner said. “I know if I paint a helmet for Ash, I’m going to see it on the TV at some point, normally doing quite well. It’s a good partnership. I try to do something different up on top [of the helmet] every time and Ash always gives me a little bit of a free hand to do what I want to do.”
Matching his Ford Focus ST, his overalls, and even his gloves, Sutton’s new helmet has the reigning BTCC Champion dressed to impress — and impressed we are!
