The National Automotive Parts Association was founded in the USA back in 1925 and is now known around the world simply as NAPA - a global market leader when it comes to aftermarket parts for all manner of vehicles.
Over the course of the past century, NAPA has enjoyed a strong relationship with the motorsport industry thanks to a number of high-profile partnerships. Many originally came in NASCAR where the likes of Chase Elliott and Michael Waltrip represented the brand.
The iconic NAPA colours have also been seen in drag racing, sprint cars and most notably IndyCar, where Alexander Rossi guided his NAPA-backed car to victory lane in the 2016 running of the prestigious Indianapolis 500.
With proven success on American shores, NAPA’s eagerness to raise its profile in the United Kingdom saw the company excitingly decide to take its first step into motor racing on British soil.
Joining forces with Alliance Racing (formerly known as Motorbase Performance) to enter the high-profile British Touring Car Championship in 2022, NAPA Racing UK was born.
Fielding a Ford Focus ST for then three-time title winner Ash Sutton and multiple Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain champion Dan Cammish, NAPA Racing UK made an instant impression as it scooped the coveted Teams’ Championship at the first time of asking.
Over the course of its maiden year NAPA Racing UK claimed four wins and a further 16 podium finishes. It was a good return; however it was nothing compared to what followed in 2023 as the team doubled in size.
NAPA Racing UK charged to a staggering 16 wins from 30 races, claimed pole position at nine of the ten meetings and between them, the four drivers combined to score an astonishing 32 podium finishes.
No less than a dozen of those wins went the way of Sutton as he secured a record-equalling fourth career title, whilst the Teams’ Championship was successfully retained and the Manufacturers/Constructors Championship was wrestled off BMW for the first time.
In addition to reigning supreme in the BTCC, NAPA Racing UK expanded its operation in 2023. Jamie Osborne lifted the Graduate Cup in the MINI CHALLENGE JCW while Paul Rivett came out on top in Division 2 of the British Truck Racing Championship.
