Chevrolet Spark Clutch Fitment Guide

A rattle generated from the clutch fork/release bearing area may be evident after a new clutch has been fitted to the Chevrolet Spark (1.0, 2010-). Often, a second new clutch is fitted, and the noise persists.

The actuation system is often the source of the noise, not the installed clutch kit. We recommend checking the following three areas of the clutch actuation system to identify and prevent this noise.

CLUTCH ACTUATION SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

  1. The clutch fork should have 2 rubber absorbers fitted on the lugs that contact the release bearing (see diagram). When these rubber absorbers are missing, the bearing rattles on the fork. Fitting these will prevent the rattle.
  2. The clutch fork can foul on the bell housing, causing a rattle and a rough feel in the clutch pedal. To stop the fork fouling, it is necessary to remove sufficient material from the bell housing to stop contact with the fork.
  3. The release bearing guide on the front of the gearbox can wear considerably, allowing the bearing to rattle on this component. When replacing a clutch, inspect this area for wear. If any wear is evident, the guide must be replaced.

Remember: The clutch actuation system wears along with the clutch plate and cover assembly. When replacing a clutch, the entire clutch system must be inspected and repaired as necessary to ensure the new clutch operates correctly.
