After a six-week break, NAPA Racing UK driver Paul Rivett returned to his supersized machine last weekend (20/21 May) as the British Truck Racing Championship speeded to Pembrey Circuit for a weekend of thrills, spills, and plenty of edge-of-the-seat entertainment in South Wales.
Rivett certainly had a weekend to remember after finishing second in the first three races before the former Renault UK Clio Cup champion put on a clinical display in races four and five to triumph in style.
The picturesque Welsh track provided a beautiful setting for the Trucks’ qualifying session on Saturday morning. During the session, Rivett encountered an issue with the brake bias that hindered his progress, resulting in him finishing nearly a second behind the leading pace.
After an incredible job in fixing the problem by the team, Rivett was able to participate in Race 1 to take his place on the grid in fourth position. The first race of the day went smoothly, with Rivett making a perfect start and executing a great move into turn one, quickly moving up to second place, where he maintained until the end of the race.
Rivett began race 2 and 3 from the back of the grid and had to work hard to advance through the field. With impressive manoeuvres, he managed to blast through and secured second place in both races to add to his silverware haul.
On Sunday, May 21st, the second race of the day had a beautiful backdrop of blue skies. However, there was a major accident in Division 1 during the rolling start, where debris caught those in tow, causing a cloud of smoke. Rivett had to take evasive action, which resulted in him locking up and damaging all six tyres and ended up at the back of the grid.
However, Rivett laid down his marker as a force to be reckoned with after striking back with a commanding drive, and setting multiple fastest laps to swiftly reach second position. As the race entered its final five minutes, the #22 driver executed a remarkable manoeuvre on Adam Bint to claim the lead and go on to win his first race victory of the season and first win with NAPA Racing UK.
As the final race of the day started, Rivett quickly secured second place at the first corner. On the second lap, he made an impressive move to take the lead and soon opened a four-second gap between himself and his competitors. As time passed, Rivett successfully crossed the finish line in first place, making it his second commanding victory of the weekend.
“We had an amazing weekend with our NAPA truck and achieved our first win of the year. Winning five trophies across five races was an incredible feat. The team did an outstanding job in turning around our qualifying results. Being a part of the NAPA family is truly a pleasure.”
